As Chelsea prepare for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, former midfielder John Obi Mikel has issued a transfer warning.

The tournament kicks off next weekend, and Chelsea are among the teams competing for global football glory, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.

Their qualification came after winning the UEFA Europa Conference League, a significant milestone in their rebuilding journey.

Chelsea also secured a return to the UEFA Champions League by finishing in the Premier League’s top four last season.

With multiple competitions on the horizon, Mikel believes the squad still needs strengthening in key areas.

Despite recent transfer activity, Mikel insists the Blues need more reinforcements to compete at the highest level.

Mikel praised Chelsea’s summer business but emphasized the need for experienced additions.

“I am excited by the business the club has done,” Mikel said during the interview.

“But if we can go again and win the Club World Cup, they can bring in more money,” he added.

Mikel specifically pointed out three positions Chelsea must address, centre-back, central midfield, and winger.

“Bring in an experienced centre-back, another midfield player and another winger,” he advised.

Chelsea have already signed young striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, signaling their commitment to youth development.

However, Mikel cautioned that youth alone cannot deliver success in a demanding global competition.

He noted that experienced players are essential to balance the squad and provide stability in tough matches.

Particularly, Mikel stressed the importance of improving creativity and goal-scoring from wide positions.

“Jadon Sancho is going back to Manchester United,” he said, referencing Chelsea’s opportunity to target a new winger.

“If we can bring in another winger who can create chances and score goals, that’s what we need,” he added.

Chelsea’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca, is working with club directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart on recruitment.

While the club prioritizes youth development, there’s also growing pressure to deliver immediate results.

The expanded Club World Cup will feature top teams from various continents, increasing the level of competition significantly.

Winning the tournament would boost Chelsea’s reputation and provide additional revenue and prestige for the club.

Mikel believes this is an opportunity Chelsea must not waste by entering the tournament under-prepared.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) understands that Chelsea are actively evaluating targets to reinforce their squad.

The club’s transfer moves in the coming weeks will likely be critical to their short-term success.

Fans are watching closely to see whether Chelsea heed Mikel’s call and act decisively in the market.

His experience and legacy at Stamford Bridge give weight to his suggestions and analysis of the current squad.

If the Blues can combine youth potential with experienced talent, they may become serious contenders on the world stage.

As the tournament approaches, time is running out to finalize impactful signings before kickoff.

Chelsea’s ambitions are clear, they aim to win trophies, rebuild dominance, and rise again among Europe’s elite.

Mikel’s message is simple: invest wisely now to avoid regrets later on the global football battlefield.
