Ministerial list: Buhari appoints self petroleum minister

President Muhammadu Buhari says he will be holding Nigeria’s oil portfolio in his new cabinet. 

President Buhari told Reuters that he intends to remain the Minister of Petroleum Resources in an interview on the sidelines of the Annual Meeting of World Leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The President adds that a Minister of State will oversee the day-to-day issues of the Petroleum Sector.

President Buhari was head of the Petroleum Trust Fund under General Sani Abacha in the 90s’ and Oil Minister in 1970 under President Olusegun Obasanjo.

With regards to appointing ministers widely expected to be made today, Chairman Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Media and Publicity Senator Dino Melaye has confirmed that the senate is yet to receive the ministerial list. 

Briefing journalists after Tuesday’s legislative proceedings, Senator Melaye said the Senate would work on the list as soon as it receives it from the Presidency.

He however said the screening of ministers would no longer be business as usual as the Senate would be more thorough and prudent.
