Moghalu Shines As Buhari, Atiku Evade Presidential Debate

The presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party [YPP], Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, on Saturday, shone like a million starts during the just-concluded Presidential Debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria.

Prof. Moghalu demonstrated that he has mastery of Nigerian problems and its solutions by delivering apt and timely responses to the question posed.

On security he promised to increase the force strength of relevant security agencies, as well as eradicate corruption from the military.

Corruption, according to him, is the albatross of the endless security strife in the northeastern Nigeria where Boko Haram has hold sway for 10 years.

He also promised to fight poverty in the region which, he said, is the canon fodder of insecurity.

Moghalu also delivered master strokes in the areas of education, power, et al.

Out of the two other contestants present at the event, Oby Ezekwesili and Fela Durotoye, he demonstrated that he has the edge to take Nigeria to the next level.

Meanwhile, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his All Progressives Congress [APC] counterpart and incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari, avoided the debate.

Stating his reasons for the boycott, Atiku said:

“I arrived the Congress Hall of the Hilton venue of the #2019Debate. This debate and the election is a referendum on the incumbent.

“We came here for a Presidential debate, not a candidacy debate, and I, Atiku Abubakar cannot challenge or question an administration where the man at the helm of the affairs of the nation is not present to defend himself or his policies.”

On its part, explaining why President Buhari did not attend the presidential debate, the APC Presidential Campaign Council said in a press statement:

“Out of several opportunities afforded our candidate to interact with the Nigerian people directly by different organisations, our presidential candidate has taken full advantage of another town-hall meeting organized by another group which held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.”

Reacting to the boycotts of the presidential debate by the APC and PDP, our correspondent, Mr. Eneh Victor Chigozie commented:

“Atiku said he would not attend if Buhari fails to attend. He landed from USA this evening and proceeded to the venue of the president debate.

“He left the venue a minute to the commencement of the Live debate when it became obvious that President Buhari would not attend.

“Where is Nigeria heading to, in the next 4 years knowing that the promises of NEXT LEVEL and RESTRUCTURING while boycotting an all important event like this.

“It is more disappointing that a sitting president can not attend a presidential debate – an opportunity for him to convince Nigerians on the need reelect him.

“Congrats to Oby Ezekwesiri of ACP, Kingsley Moughalu of YPP and Durotoye of ANN,” he concluded
