Onyekesi: More Details Emerge On How Insecurity Killed Son Of APGA Women Leader Shortly After She Praised Soludo For “Restoring Security in Anambra”
Okpuno area of Awka, the capital of Anambra State, are still counting their losses amidst deep mourning after young Mr. Ifesinachi Onyekesi, popularly known as Fish Magnet, was killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
The heavily armed gunmen reportedly struck his home on Saturday, July 26, 2025, and whisked him away.
Shortly, thereafter, they called his mother, Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, to come and pick up the dead body of Ifesinachi.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), following some in-depth investigations, came up with some information surrounding the death of the late young man and her family.
- Ifesinachi is the only son of the mother, Mrs. Onyekesi.
- He is the owner of Fish Magnet, a growing business located in Awka, the state capital.
- Fish Magnet is a thriving business built around fishes, producing dry fishes and also operates a known fish barbecue.
- Mrs. Onyekesi is the Anambra State Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
- Considered most ironic is that the APGA Women Leader was present in an event held by the state government at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
At the event, she sang the praises of the state governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for restoring security in the state.
Shortly afterwards, gunmen stormed their residence, whisked the son away, and shot him dead.
Anambra residents lament death of Onyekesi
Since the death of young “Fish Magnet”, residents of Anambra in particular, and South East in general, have been lamenting and counting their losses over the unabated insecurity bedeviling the state and the region.
Displaying the picture of Onyekesi and his mother, an aggrieved citizen cried:
“Beside the murdered guy is his mother, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, the Anambra State Women Leader of APGA, the only son she had.
“May his promising soul rest in perfect peace and the bereaved the fortitude to bear the huge and irreparable loss. A pity!”
The m0ther of late Fish Magnet cried bitterly:
“My only son has been killed. My son did not wrong anyone.
“They have killed my only son out of envy and jealousy because his fish business started booming.
“He was kidnapped, and they demanded for a rans0m. I sold my properties to pay for it.
“They still killed him. I’m finished; how will I survive this.”

One Joy Okafor posted on Facebook:
“Gunmen have taken the life of young Anambra businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekesi, popularly known as Fish Magnet, owner of Fish Magnet Barbecue.
“According to reports, the gunmen stormed his residence in Awka, shot him, and whisked him away.
“Not long after, they called his mother and told her to come and pick up the lifeless body of her only son.
“His Mother, Esther Chinyere Onyekesi (Adaejiejemba), is the Anambra State APGA Woman Leader.
“This is beyond heartbreaking… Rest in peace, Fish Magnet.”
Another indigene of the state, lamenting the passing of Onyekesi, wrote:
“Am so sad over the gruesome murder of this handsome hardworking fish farmer!
“This guy was kidnapped in his house in capital city of Anambra state, Awka on Saturday and was killed on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, his mother is the Anambra State APGA Woman Leader.
“On that very day her son was kidnapped in Awka, his mother was at Alex Ekwueme Square in the same Awka, praising Soludo, say that he has restored security in Anambra state during Anambra Central endorsement of Soludo.
“Sadly, few hours later, his son was kidnapped and killed in the same city she was politically acclaiming that security is top notch.
“The worst of it is not that her son was kidnapped and killed but the major issue is that there is no trace to track the perpetrators in the city a professor is a governor, there is no single flashing streetlight and security cameras to capture any incident.
“I am not mocking the mother of the dead, but it’s imperative that we question the governor on the issue that borders on security irrespective of political party, self-interest and so on, because nobody knows who may be the next.
“Just imagine what might be going in the mind of this guy’s mother.
“Would she ever say or agree that Soludo has handled security, and his son got kidnapped and killed within Awka and yet no trace to that?
“It’s a big lesson! Over the weekend, I visited Awka where I spent just a night and zoomed back to Calabar.
“I was so astonished that there is no good lighting from Eke Awka to Agu Awka, from Agu Awka to Amawbia.
“The only place I saw light which is not even good enough for a better security camera was at the road to the New Government House.
“The big question is: how can there be security where there are no streetlights and no cameras?
“And Anambra state is being governed by a professor! I weep for my state!
“In other South Eastern states, it’s only in Anambra state that you will hear that people are being kidnapped or killed in its capital, a state governed by a professor!”
