This report will provide an overview of my recent journey from Lagos to Awka in Anambra, detailing the purpose, route, transportation, and highlights of the trip.

I traveled from Lagos to Awka for a “media training and capacity building workshop” hosted by Coalition for the Protection of Democracy(COPDEM) in collaboration with Diaspora Digital Media(DDM).

My journey from Lagos to Awka covers a distance of approximately 350 kilometers and can be traveled by road or air. The road trip typically takes about 7-8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. The most common route is to travel eastwards on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway which continues on the Ibadan-Oyo Expressway, and then take the Ife-Ilesa-Akure expressway to reach Anambra.

For my trip, I opted to travel by road in a comfortable air-conditioned bus. The bus departed from Lagos early in the morning at around 7:30AM and made several stops along the way for rest breaks and meal breaks. The journey was smooth and relatively hassle-free, thanks to the experienced driver who constantly entertained me with playlists of sensational musics in his well-maintained vehicle.

One of the highlights of the journey was passing through different regions and landscapes, each with its own unique scenery and charm. Another memorable aspect of my trip was stopping at local food stalls and markets along the way to sample traditional dishes and snacks. From ripped bananas by the roadside to freshly made plantain chips at a bustling market, the culinary experiences added a delightful touch to the journey.

Upon reaching Anambra, I was struck by the vibrant culture and bustling activity of the city. The colorful markets, roadside vendors, and friendly locals all contributed to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the region.
