Myanmar earthquake: Death toll nears 150, calls for foreign aid

A 30-story building collapsed in Bangkok, trapping 83 people.

The earthquake which measured 7.7 in magnitude has reportedly killed 144 people and injured over 700 at the time of this report, says the US Geological Survey (USGS ).

Earlier, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reported that 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Sagaing region on Friday, March 28, 2025.

A second quake of 6.4 magnitude followed shortly.

Myanmar’s military leader, Aung Hlain said that death toll and the number of injuries are likely to rise.

Hlain added that he has made request for international aid after the devastating earthquake .

He reassured the public that rescue efforts from China and India are still underway in affected areas.

Reports of Buildings collapsed, trapping people, and hospitals are overwhelmed.

State-run hospitals in Naypyidaw, Mandalay, and Sagaing are filled with casualties.

A state of emergency has been declared in six provinces.

The provinces include Naypyidaw, Mandalay, and Sagaing.

European Commission (EU) President, Ursula von der Leyen, pledged support to victims of this violent quake.

Authorities also confirmed that the  earthquake has also affected neighboring Thailand.
