N-HYPADEC Delivers Emergency Relief to Benue IDPs After Massacre
DDM News

Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State, particularly those affected by the recent Yelwata massacre, have received a critical consignment of relief materials from the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADEC).
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that this humanitarian gesture is part of the commission’s continued show of solidarity with victims of violent attacks across Nigeria’s Middle Belt, especially in communities frequently targeted by suspected armed herdsmen and criminal gangs.
The items were officially presented to the Benue State Government by N-HYPADEC’s Acting Managing Director, Jimoh Gabi, during a handover ceremony held at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) office in Makurdi.
The relief package included essential survival items such as mattresses, rubber mats, bags of rice, food seasoning, laundry and bathing soap, and mosquito nets.
The agency also donated 10 Hero Hunter motorcycles, which are expected to significantly enhance mobility, security patrols, and rapid field response operations by local emergency teams.
While presenting the materials, Gabi stressed the urgency of the moment and called for greater vigilance across vulnerable communities in the state.
He urged relevant stakeholders to engage more actively in environmental surveillance and security intelligence to prevent future attacks.
Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, Benue State Deputy Governor Sam Ode expressed deep appreciation to N-HYPADEC for the timely and consistent support.
He commended the commission’s quick response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the Yelwata attack, describing the intervention as a major morale boost for survivors and displaced families.
Deputy Governor Ode assured the public that the relief items would be distributed transparently and used strictly for their intended purposes.
He further advocated for proactive disaster preparedness efforts and stronger collaboration between the state and federal agencies like N-HYPADEC, noting that timely intervention saves lives and restores dignity to affected populations.
The Yelwata massacre, which displaced hundreds of residents and left many communities in mourning, has become a tragic symbol of the insecurity ravaging parts of Benue State.
As displaced families continue to reel from the trauma, interventions like this offer a glimmer of hope amid despair.
