The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dismissed reports claiming that its C-130 aircraft violated Burkina Faso’s airspace or that its crew members were detained by Burkinabe authorities.
In an official statement on Tuesday, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame clarified that the aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso on 8 December during a ferry mission to Portugal.
According to Ejodame, the crew detected a technical issue shortly after takeoff from Lagos, prompting the pilots to divert to the nearest safe airfield, in line with international aviation protocols and standard safety procedures.
“All NAF crew members are safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities,” he confirmed, debunking claims of detention.
He added that arrangements are underway for the aircraft and crew to resume the mission as scheduled.
The NAF expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support and assured the public of its commitment to strict safety standards and operational professionalism.
