The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has introduced an upgraded version of its Med Safety App as part of efforts to strengthen the monitoring of medicines and protect public health across Nigeria.
The digital platform enables healthcare professionals and members of the public to report suspected counterfeit medicines, substandard pharmaceutical products, and adverse drug reactions directly to the agency using mobile devices.
According to NAFDAC, the upgraded application is designed to improve pharmacovigilance and drug safety surveillance by providing a faster and more accessible reporting system. The platform allows users to submit information in real time, enabling regulatory authorities to respond more promptly to potential health risks.
The agency noted that the initiative is expected to enhance the early detection of unsafe medicines and strengthen efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit and falsified drugs, which continue to pose significant challenges to public health.
Public health experts have welcomed the development, describing it as a step toward improving consumer protection and ensuring greater accountability within the pharmaceutical supply chain.
NAFDAC has encouraged Nigerians to download the Med Safety App on Android and iOS devices and actively participate in safeguarding public health by reporting suspicious medicines and any harmful reactions associated with drug use.
The agency emphasized that increased public participation will support regulatory enforcement, improve the quality of medicines available in the country, and contribute to a safer healthcare system for all Nigerians.
