Naira abuse: Tompolo has questions to answer — EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo, has questions to answer over an alleged case of naira abuse.

This was after a video from Tompolo’s 54th birthday ceremony showed him getting sprayed with N1,000 notes by an unidentified man.

In a brief statement shared on its official Facebook page Monday, the anti-graft agency reiterated that no one is above the law and confirmed that Tompolo will be required to answer questions regarding the incident.

“Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer,” the anti-graft agency stated.

The issue of naira abuse has been a recent focus for the EFCC. In April 2024, popular crossdresser Idris Olarewaju Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, was sentenced to six months in prison for similar offenses.

Last month, socialite Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, also known as E-Money, was arrested by the commission for allegedly spraying naira notes and defacing foreign currencies.

Furthermore, Nigerian celebrities like actress Iyabo Ojo and comedian Ayo Makun were questioned by the EFCC last week for their involvement in currency spraying.

In January, the EFCC also summoned Wahab and Raheem Okoya, sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, for questioning after they posted a video flaunting and spraying naira notes.
