The National Assembly has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s bid to resume her legislative duties, maintaining that her six-month suspension remains valid until the Court of Appeal delivers its judgment.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represent Kogi Central, had notified the Senate of her plan to return on September 4, citing the completion of her suspension period.
However, the National Assembly disagreed, stating that her suspension took effect on March 6, 2025.
The suspension stems from a heated clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during a plenary session.
Although the Federal High Court in Abuja upheld the Senate’s decision, Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken the matter to the Court of Appeal, challenging the ruling.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, informed Akpoti-Uduaghan that no administrative action can be taken to facilitate her resumption until the judicial process is concluded.
The National Assembly has assured Akpoti-Uduaghan that she will be notified of the Senate’s decision once the matter is resolved.
