National Assembly: Maikasuwa hands over to Omolori

Power struggle between the Chairman, National Assembly Service Commission, Adamu Fika and Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki is finally laid to rest.

On Thursday, the Outgoing Clerk, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa specifically stated that Omolori as earlier appointed by Adamu Fika, would act in his absence.

Fika had in a letter dated 20th April 2016, appointed Omolori as Acting Clerk to the National Assembly from May, 14th 2016 to August 14th 2016.

That is the period in which the outgoing Clerk , Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa would embark on his pre- retirement leave.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, however, rejected Omolori’s appointment against the incumbent Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly (DCNA), Mr Ben Efeturi.

His response was contained in a swift response to Omolori appointment as Acting Clerk by Fika, in a letter dated April 21, 2016.

Saraki in that letter, directed Adamu Fika to withdraw Omolori’s appointment letter forthwith and issue a fresh one for Efeturi on the grounds of seniority.

That nonetheless was not to be as it was not complied with by Adamu Fika.

Fika, in another letter to Saraki dated April 26th 2016, explained the circumstances that led to Omolori’s appointment as against Efeturi.

Weeks of disagreement between Saraki and NASC Executive Chairman got the board of the Commission polarized into two.

They were polarised over the appointment of Acting Clerk to the National Assembly.

The division came preparatory to Maikasuwa disengagement from service.

Different factions of six federal commissioners each, supporting or antagonizing Omolori or Efeturi for the position appeared, with attendant tension in the air.

But the circular issued by the outgoing  CNA, Salisu Maikasuwa diffused the tension.

He specifically stated that Omolori as earlier appointed by Adamu Fika, would act in his absence.

Maikasuwa said, “I am proceeding on my terminal leave from 14th May, 2016 to 14th August 2016.

“During my absence, the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed  A Sani- Omolori will perform my duties, please”.

Maikasuwa copied the circular to:

1. the Senate President, Bukola Saraki,

2. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara,

3. Deputy Senate President,

4. Deputy Speaker,

5. Senate Leader,

6. House Leader,

7. The Executive Chairman of NASC,

8. The Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, etc,.
