The National Assembly has suspended all legislative activities until July 22, 2025, as a mark of respect for former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London clinic.

Buhari died at about 4:30 pm after a prolonged illness, reportedly due to leukaemia, a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow.

The suspension will last until Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

All members of the National Assembly are urged to reschedule their engagements to participate in the burial activities.

Further details on rescheduled sittings and official tributes will be communicated in due course.

The leadership of both chambers extended condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, Katsina state, and Buhari’s family.

The statement noted that Buhari will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and integrity, praying that Almighty Allah grants his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.

Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the UK to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria.
