NCS introduces e-CDF at Abuja Airport

Abuja, Nigeria – May 3, 2025 – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has introduced the Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

This move highlights the agency’s push toward digitization, strengthening border security and financial transparency.

According to NCS spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada, the e-CDF pilot phase began on April 9, 2025. Importantly, the system aligns with global anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CFT) standards, demonstrating Nigeria’s adherence to international financial regulations.

During testing, the e-CDF processed 69 transactions. Outbound travelers declared $1,200,281.22 across 51 forms, while inbound passengers reported $177,786.88 in 18 declarations. Due to this success, the NCS now plans to extend the system to other airports and land borders nationwide.

Maiwada praised the e-CDF, stating, “The platform ensures secure, efficient, and transparent currency declarations for travelers.” Additionally, he highlighted its real-time data capabilities, which enhance inter-agency collaboration and intelligence sharing—key tools in combating financial crimes.

The NCS remains committed to using technology to improve compliance, ease legitimate travel, and safeguard border integrity. Stakeholders believe the e-CDF will simplify currency declarations while reinforcing security at Nigeria’s entry points.

As the NCS prepares for wider e-CDF implementation, travelers and businesses must adapt to the new system. Ultimately, this digital shift aims to streamline financial declarations and foster transparency in cross-border transactions.
