(DDM) – The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has been conferred with an international award in London for his outstanding leadership and contribution to regional transformation.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Dr. Ogbuku was recognised at the prestigious London Political Summit and Awards (LPSA), where he received the Nigeria Regional Government Development Champion of the Year 2025 Award at the historic UK House of Commons.

The award, which has become one of the most respected global recognitions for African leaders, celebrates innovation, good governance, and sustainable development.

Dr. Ogbuku was honoured for his visionary role in repositioning the Niger Delta Development Commission as a driver of inclusive growth and human capital advancement across the oil-producing states of southern Nigeria.

According to the organisers, Ogbuku’s leadership has significantly impacted the region through a renewed focus on project delivery, youth empowerment, and transparent governance.

The recognition came as the NDDC intensified efforts to complete major infrastructure and social projects designed to uplift the economic status of communities in the Niger Delta.

Represented at the event by Dr. Chris Ekam and Dr. Willie Etim, Dr. Ogbuku described the award as an international validation of the Commission’s ongoing transformation agenda.

He noted that the NDDC’s new strategic direction was built around transparency, accountability, and partnership-driven development that aligns with global best practices.

In his acceptance remarks, Ogbuku expressed gratitude to the organisers of the London Political Summit and dedicated the award to the resilient people of the Niger Delta.

He assured that the Commission would continue to prioritise developmental initiatives that promote peace, sustainability, and opportunity across the region.

“The Niger Delta is no longer a story of agitation and neglect,” Ogbuku said. “We are telling a new story, one of transformation, empowerment, and shared prosperity.”

Founder of the summit, Mazi Godson Azu, commended Ogbuku’s efforts and described the London Political Summit as a global platform promoting peace, democracy, and inclusive development across Africa and the Commonwealth.

He said the recognition was based on merit and evidence of measurable progress under Ogbuku’s administration, which has revitalised confidence in the NDDC’s mission.

Political observers and diaspora leaders present at the event praised the NDDC’s reforms, describing them as “a model for regional development agencies across Africa.”

They urged the Nigerian government to sustain its support for the Commission to enable it to deliver more legacy projects and continue its positive engagement with local communities.

With this international recognition, Dr. Ogbuku joins a growing list of Nigerian public leaders whose developmental vision and governance reforms have attracted global admiration.

The award, many analysts say, reaffirms the NDDC’s evolving role as a critical institution for sustainable progress and regional stability in Nigeria’s oil-rich heartland.
