NDLEA intensifies drug crackdown with arrests, seizure across Nigeria

Kano, Nigeria – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) escalated its anti-drug operations, arresting multiple suspects and seizing illicit substances nationwide.

In Kano State, NDLEA agents intercepted 45-year-old Michael Ogundele on March 19 along the Zaria-Kano Road. Officers discovered 50,000 tramadol pills hidden inside a gas cylinder welded shut. Meanwhile, authorities detained Sunday Ogar, 40, in Gunduwawa, recovering 27 kilograms of skunk.

Additionally, agents apprehended Khadijah Abdullahi, 40, in Lungun Bulala Yalwa on March 18, seizing 424 bottles of codeine syrup.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives captured Olumuyiwa Kolawole and Samod Adisa in Mushin, confiscating 67.5 kilograms of skunk. Furthermore, 100.8 kilograms of the drug were recovered from fleeing suspects in Anifowoshe.

On March 18, officers arrested Isah Idris in Apapa, seizing 4.5 kilograms of skunk, 600 grams of tramadol, and 30 liters of codeine. That same day, Yahaya Mohamed faced arrest in Ikotun with cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

Beyond enforcement, NDLEA expanded its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) outreach, educating communities on substance dangers. Teams conducted seminars at Chrisland School, Lagos; Hakimi Secondary School, Niger; Marist College, Anambra; Ikole City College, Ekiti; and Government Schools in Sokoto and Adamawa.

Chairman Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa commended Lagos, Kano, and MAKIA commands for disrupting drug networks. He praised the balanced strategy targeting supply reduction and public awareness, urging sustained efforts.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating illicit drugs through relentless operations and nationwide education, ensuring a safer Nigeria.
