NDLEA nabs 156 narcotic suspects in Anambra State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra state says it has arrested 156 drug offender in the state between January and May this year.

The Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, disclosed this on Wednesday in a press briefing, adding that those arrested included 146 males and 10 females.

That 65 of them have already been charged to court.

According to him, the agency seized drugs weighing 923kg and 3 vehicles within the same period.

Momodu commended the Anambra state Gov Willie Obiano for his commitment in assisting the agency, saying the governor’s help  had propelled the agency to accomplish so much.

He regretted  that lack of operational vehicles has continued to hamper and limit the agency’s operational effectiveness.

He blamed parents for the increasing involvement of youths in drug abuse.

He noted that most  parents would “ not pay attention to their children to understand their worries, desires, aspirations and ambitions”.

The commander expressed concern over what he saw as progressive poor parenting in our contemporary society.

This has now thrown the youth to many complicated situations without knowing or understanding the full repercussions.

“If we listen to them and understand their problems and worries as they grow, we will be better able to identify their problems early enough before they go out of hand, Momodu said.

He said in this year’s drug awareness day coming up on Sunday,  the agency would create massive awareness on the prevalence of drug trafficking, dangers and the way out.

He urged parents, government and cooperate bodies to join hands in checking drug abuse among our youths.
