Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South recently expressed serious concerns about the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) direction under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
During an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time,” Ndume hinted he might reconsider his party membership if urgent national issues remain unaddressed.
His warning signals growing unrest within the ruling party and a potential political shake-up.
Ndume acknowledged his hope that President Tinubu can still guide Nigeria toward progress despite current challenges.
However, he cautioned that failure to improve governance could force him to explore alternative political options.
“I still believe this president can fix these things,” Ndume stated, “but failure might cause me to move. The overloaded ship will sink.”
The senator also revealed he has attended several meetings with opposition leaders planning to form a coalition against Tinubu’s administration for the 2027 elections.
Nevertheless, Ndume remains cautious, refusing to commit to joining the coalition prematurely.
He emphasized his belief in Tinubu’s potential and his desire to avoid jumping “from the frying pan into the fire.”
Furthermore, Ndume warned that the APC risks capsizing if the current governance trajectory continues.
He stressed that loading the party with more people or governors without addressing core issues only endangers its survival.
“If he continues this way, that ship, whether you load in other people or governors, you are just endangering the APC,” he remarked.
Ndume also criticized recent defections to the APC, labeling them opportunistic rather than principled.
He described these moves as driven by “indirect stick-and-carrot politics,” which undermine the party’s integrity and governance quality.
“Most people are not joining based on principles but due to indirect stick-and-carrot politics. That is not healthy at all,” he added.
His comments highlight rising concerns about governance and political stability within and beyond the APC.
As opposition coalitions gain momentum, Ndume’s stance signals possible significant realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
For now, he remains cautiously optimistic but demands meaningful progress to maintain his loyalty.
