Trump and Netanyahu meet a second time to discuss Gaza truce

The Netanyahu Trump Gaza Talks 2025 have taken center stage as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss a potential ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. The leaders also addressed Hamas’ military presence and recent U.S.-Israel coordination against Iran.

Netanyahu said on X that he and Trump focused on “completing the mission in Gaza,” which includes dismantling Hamas and freeing all remaining hostages.

“This is about finishing what we started — freeing our people, ensuring Israel’s safety, and eliminating Hamas’ military structure,” Netanyahu stated.

The Netanyahu Trump Gaza Talks 2025 mark Netanyahu’s third visit to Washington since Trump returned to office in January. Talks are ongoing, with both leaders signaling cautious optimism.

Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed that only one issue remains unresolved. A proposed 60-day ceasefire could see ten live hostages and nine deceased individuals returned to Israel.

Before Netanyahu’s arrival, a Qatari delegation met U.S. officials to discuss the next steps in the deal. Qatar is mediating indirect talks between Israel and Hamas.

In addition to the hostage negotiations, Netanyahu held meetings with Vice President JD Vance and U.S. lawmakers. After his Capitol visit, he told reporters that while Israel’s military operations in Gaza are not over, diplomatic efforts are active.

The talks come nearly two years after Hamas’ October 2023 attack on southern Israel, which left 1,200 dead and 251 hostages taken. Israel’s response has killed over 57,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health officials. Most of Gaza is now in ruins, and famine threatens hundreds of thousands.
