New Army formation established in Ekiti to bolster security

Ekiti State enhanced security by establishing a Nigerian Army formation in Ikere-Ekiti.

Authorities swiftly deployed the 148 Battalion, targeting regional insecurity through strategic operations.

This initiative aims to curb violence, foster inter-agency collaboration, and ensure stability across high-risk communities through coordinated efforts.

Outgoing 12 Brigade Commander Major General Oluremi Fadairo announced the initiative during a Monday visit to Governor Biodun Oyebanji in Ado-Ekiti.

He emphasized collaboration to ensure community safety and stability.

Senior officers, including incoming Commander Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi and Colonel Kyari Babakura, joined Fadairo.

This move underscores proactive military engagement to fortify Ekiti’s security framework and interagency cooperation.

The delegation visited Ekiti State to assess the new temporary barracks in Ikere-Ekiti ahead of the deployment.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the Army leadership expressed satisfaction with the barracks’ location and assured that personnel deployment would commence immediately at the temporary site.

However, they requested additional space to serve as a temporary base for the incoming troops.

General Fadairo emphasized that the establishment of the 148 Battalion would significantly improve security in Ekiti State, particularly in areas bordering Kogi and Ondo States.

He called on residents to support and cooperate with the military to ensure the success of this initiative in curbing insecurity.

Governor Oyebanji welcomed the development, describing it as a major step toward strengthening safety and security in Ekiti.

He noted that the new formation would further solidify the state’s reputation as a peaceful and desirable destination for living, working, and investment.

“We are grateful to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for approving this Battalion for Ekiti State.

We also extend our gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for making this a reality.

“Although Ekiti maintains a peaceful reputation, criminal activities persist, particularly around the newly established Battalion’s location.

To combat these threats, authorities deployed the Battalion strategically, targeting crime hotspots to reinforce security and restore community confidence.”

This decisive action highlights proactive measures to address vulnerabilities while preserving Ekiti’s overall tranquility through focused intervention and collaboration.

The Governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with all security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
