New Service Chiefs: Buhari Marginalises Igbos- Activist

A human rights activist and author, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, has lamented that President Muhammadu Buhari “marginalises the Igbo in his historically lopsided appointments since 2015 till date”.

Mr. Njoku, added that the unprecedented oath of 5% ill- treatment against the Igbo by the Buhari-led government is utterly unacceptable and vindictive, noting that the Igbo should be allowed to have a peaceful referendum for self-determination and sovereignty than being treated like second class slaves.

“Igbos have faced the worst systemic marginalisation and institutionalized nepotism in the Buhari government than any other government in Nigerian history.

“Mr. President is openly implementing his aforementioned 97% and 5% philosophy of marginalisation against the Igbo ethnic nationality.

“No doubt, the culture of Federal Character Commission is murdered by this government.

“The prerogative of Mr. President to choose or select his Service Chiefs must not involve considering any Igboman or woman incompetent to head a national security body in the entire Nigerian security institution.

“This is unfair, utterly unacceptable, a sham, travesty of honesty and antithesis of unity”, said the activist.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari finally fired the Service Chiefs.

A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, read in parts:

“President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs and their retirement from service.

“The new Service Chiefs are: Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A. Z Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff”.
