The announcement was made on Tuesday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the presidential address will be aired live on Channels Television and other electronic media platforms.

This will be President Tinubu’s third Independence Day broadcast since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

His previous addresses focused on the administration’s economic reforms, security challenges, and the Renewed Hope Agenda designed to reposition the country.

The Federal Government has chosen the theme “Nigeria @65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” for this year’s celebrations.

Officials say the theme underscores the importance of unity, collaboration, and patriotism among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens in advancing peace, progress, and prosperity.

In a statement, the government explained that the theme reflects Nigeria’s resilience since gaining independence in 1960 and highlights the need to consolidate past achievements while striving toward loftier goals.

As part of the anniversary program, a Juma’at prayer was held on Friday, September 26, followed by an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28.

However, the Federal Government announced the cancellation of the traditional parade earlier scheduled for October 1.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, clarified that the cancellation should not be seen as diminishing the importance of the day.

He stressed that the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th independence milestone with “dignity and enthusiasm.”

Many Nigerians will be watching closely for assurances on pressing issues, including food security, power supply, and job creation.

As the country turns 65, citizens, leaders, and analysts alike are reflecting on Nigeria’s long journey since independence in 1960, its challenges, and its hopes for the future under Tinubu’s leadership.
