Nigeria: A failed state ruled by fraudsters

Nigeria’s democracy has become a mockery, with judicial rulings that defy logic and undermine the will of the people.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the 2023 presidential election results has raised questions about judicial independence and electoral integrity.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner of a highly controversial election.

Despite widespread allegations of voter suppression, electoral fraud, and irregularities, the Supreme Court upheld INEC’s decision.

Many Nigerians now wonder what legal precedents will be taught in law schools after these questionable rulings.

The Imo State governorship case is another shocking example of Nigeria’s political abnormalities.

A candidate who placed fourth in the election was declared the winner and installed as governor.

In another bizarre scenario, a former governor who contested and lost the presidential primaries found his way back into the Senate.

Without contesting any election, he was rewarded with the position of Senate President.

These developments have reinforced the belief that Nigeria’s democracy is a system where power is allocated based on political influence rather than the people’s will.

The government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken actions that have deepened the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.

His first major policy decision was the immediate removal of fuel subsidies upon assuming office.

This led to a sharp rise in fuel prices, triggering inflation and worsening economic hardship.

Millions of Nigerians were plunged into deeper poverty as the cost of living skyrocketed.

Despite this economic crisis, the government continues to waste public funds on excessive political appointments and extravagant expenditures.

Instead of addressing the suffering of Nigerians, Tinubu’s administration has focused on consolidating political power.

In Rivers State, the president declared a state of emergency, a move widely seen as a strategy to control the state.

Many believe this was done to weaken political opponents ahead of future elections.

These authoritarian tactics have further fueled anger among the Nigerian people.

Young Nigerians, particularly from Generation Z, are becoming increasingly vocal against the failures of the government.

The ruling class continues to enrich itself while the majority of the population suffers.

Despite fears of government intimidation, unlawful arrests, and even extrajudicial killings, resistance is growing.

There is a growing sentiment that if meaningful reforms are not implemented, Nigeria could witness an uprising.

The younger generation has vowed to resist the old political order that has looted and ruined the country.

If a revolution begins, it will not only target corrupt politicians but may also extend to their families and allies.

Among the most vocal critics of the Tinubu-led government is Lawrence Kingsley Ikechukwu.

He is a respected community leader, businessman, and passionate advocate for political change.

A native of Bende Local Government Area in Abia State, Ikechukwu currently resides in Lagos and Ogun States.

He is a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

For years, he has been actively involved in grassroots politics and advocacy.

Ikechukwu previously served as the President and Ex-Officio 1 of the Ndi-Igbo Students Association (NISA).

In 2019, he contested for a seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly under the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP).

Between 2021 and 2023, he played a significant role in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the ward level.

He served as Tarmac Unit Chairman and Sango High School Unit Coordinator in Sango Ward.

In 2024, he was elected as the Ado Odo Ota Local Government Youth Leader.

He is currently the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the Sango Ward Councilorship election.

Ikechukwu has strongly condemned the APC-led government for its failures and authoritarian approach to governance.

He has called for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, whose continued detention he describes as unlawful.

He has also demanded the reversal of the state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it politically motivated.

Ikechukwu insists that comprehensive electoral reforms are necessary to restore democracy in Nigeria.

He has urged the government to implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference (Confab).

Another key demand is the drastic reduction of the cost of governance by at least 90%.

Nigeria cannot continue on this path of reckless spending and political patronage.

Public funds should be redirected to improving healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

With rising discontent among Nigerians, many believe the country is approaching a breaking point.

If the government refuses to listen to the people, drastic action may become inevitable.

History has shown that when leaders ignore the cries of the masses, revolutions happen.

The ruling class must understand that power ultimately belongs to the people.

The next election will be a decisive moment for Nigeria’s future.

Will Nigerians finally reject corrupt politicians and demand real change?

Or will the cycle of oppression, fraud, and misrule continue?

The answer lies in the hands of the Nigerian people.
