Mikel Obi fired Nigeria to Olympic semi-finals

Despite the odd lapses of concentration for the Nigerian defence, the 2-0 score-line flattered the Danes on the day.

The Nigerian side is now looking like clear Gold medalist favorites after their AFCON U23 champions exploits.

Goals in either half from Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel and Aminu Umar’s thumping header set Samson Siasia’s side for a mouthwatering semi-final fixture against Germany.

Portugal U23 0-4 Germany U23

Germany ran riot in a 4-0 win over Portugal earlier in the day.

Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry gave the Germans the lead with his sixth goal in the competition’s four games.

Germany thereby booked their spot in the semi-finals of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Gnabry gave his team the lead just before half-time with a low strike.

Matthias Ginter doubled Germany’s advantage from a corner after the break.

Davie Selke added a third goal after 75 minutes before Philipp Max rubbed further salt in the wounds of the Portuguese just before the full-time whistle.
