President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for expanded collaboration between Nigeria and Denmark, particularly in livestock development and education.

The President made this appeal on Tuesday during a meeting with Queen Mary Elizabeth of Denmark at the State House, Abuja.

He highlighted the critical need for urgent action to address key sectors affecting Nigeria’s development and stability.

Furthermore, he emphasized that these sectors are crucial in fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and ensuring food security for Nigeria’s future.

In addition, he pointed out that supporting these areas will help build resilience and sustainable development in the country.

Meanwhile, this visit marked the Danish Queen’s first trip to Nigeria in her capacity as Patron of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Consequently, it underscores the importance of strengthening ongoing international partnerships for mutual progress and development.

These areas are crucial because they directly contribute to economic growth, create jobs, and ensure food security.

President Tinubu outlined Nigeria’s readiness to deepen partnerships with Denmark, particularly in knowledge transfer, veterinary health, and sustainable agribusiness practices.

Addressing Livestock Economy and Security Challenges

President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s dairy and livestock sectors are vital for rural development.

Therefore, he stated, investments in agriculture and education are crucial to meet the projected population growth by 2050.

Furthermore, acknowledging ongoing farmer-herder conflicts, the President expressed optimism.

Despite these challenges, he believes that these issues can be transformed into economic opportunities through strategic reforms.

“We can convert that friction into structured economic opportunity and provide education pathways—even for farmers and herders.

We can stabilise communities, grow our food systems, and lift millions out of poverty,” he stated.

Strengthening Foreign Cooperation

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to macroeconomic reforms, therefore aiming to attract foreign investment, which will bolster local production and create jobs.

Furthermore, he commended Denmark’s contributions to Nigeria’s agriculture and maritime sectors, highlighting Danish companies like A.P. Moller–Maersk and Grundfos that improve infrastructure and food systems.

The President also acknowledged Denmark’s humanitarian support for internally displaced persons (IDPs), especially in conflict zones, thus emphasizing ongoing collaboration.

Additionally, he expressed hope for stronger partnership as Denmark assumes the EU presidency and joins the UN Security Council for 2025-2026.

Focus on Education and Social Development

On the social front, President Tinubu welcomed Queen Mary’s partnership with the First Lady.

This partnership focuses on initiatives such as school feeding programs and efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children.

Furthermore, Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the importance of integrating traditional Islamic schools into broader educational reforms.

She highlighted that formal recognition of these schools is essential to ensure their contributions to knowledge dissemination are acknowledged and valued.

Meanwhile, Queen Mary praised Nigeria’s efforts in addressing educational challenges.

She also expressed admiration for the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative Programme, which supports women and families.

Additionally, the Queen voiced her sympathy over the ongoing crisis in Nigeria’s northeast.

She reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to strengthening relations with Nigeria and emphasized the importance of continued international cooperation.

Exploring Investment Opportunities

During her visit, Queen Mary highlighted Denmark’s keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria’s green economy.

Moreover, she emphasized the importance of strengthening trade, promoting women’s business development, and enhancing child health initiatives.

As both countries aim to expand their cooperation, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering partnerships aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Consequently, this agenda emphasizes sustainable development, economic growth, and social inclusion for a prosperous future.
