About Numbeo

Diaspora Digital Media fact-check indicates that Numbeo is a comprehensive online database that provides valuable insights into the cost of living, housing prices, crime rates, healthcare quality, and other essential statistics for cities and countries worldwide.

Founded in April 2009 by Mladen Adamović, a former Google employee, Numbeo has grown to become the world’s largest cost of living database, with over 9.4 million prices in 12,192 cities contributed by more than 841,000 users.

One of the key features of Numbeo is its Cost of Living Comparison tool, which enables users to compare the affordability of two cities side-by-side.

This tool provides a comprehensive breakdown of everyday expenses, including groceries, restaurants, and rent, allowing users to make informed decisions about their lifestyle and finances.

Additionally, Numbeo’s Cost of Living Index provides a general idea of how much cheaper or more expensive one city is compared to another.

Numbeo’s data collection process is a combination of user-generated input and manually gathered information from reputable sources, such as supermarket and taxi company websites, and governmental institutions.

The manually collected data is given a weight that is three times higher than user-generated input to improve the reliability of the data.

This approach ensures that Numbeo’s data is accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date.

Numbeo’s database is not limited to cost of living data; it also provides information on crime rates, healthcare quality, and other quality of life metrics.

The website’s Crime Index is compiled from user surveys and provides an overall crime level estimate for cities and countries.

However, it’s worth noting that Numbeo’s crime data has been criticized by academics and media outlets as unreliable and potentially misleading.

Despite some limitations, Numbeo remains a valuable resource for individuals, businesses, and organizations seeking to understand the cost of living and quality of life in different cities and countries.

Its comprehensive database and user-friendly interface make it an essential tool for anyone looking to make informed decisions about their lifestyle, finances, or business operations.
