Nigerian Army commissions new drone Pilots and Engineers

On Wednesday, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), commissioned 22 qualified officers and soldiers as pilots and certified aircraft engineers in the Nigerian Army Space Command.

This important event occurred at the Command Officers’ Mess during the closing ceremony of the COAS Annual Conference.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede highlighted that this achievement serves as a morale booster for the Army.

He affirmed that these newly certified personnel are now ready to fly and maintain the Turkish Berakta TV-2 drones in the Army’s inventory.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Army intends to acquire more unmanned aerial systems next year, thereby improving operations in various theatres.

This initiative aims to strengthen the Army’s capabilities in addressing pressing security challenges.

In discussing President Bola Tinubu’s recent budget proposal, Lt. Gen. Oluyede expressed optimism regarding the Army’s future direction.

He stated, “The Nigerian Army looks forward to a smooth project defense and timely release of appropriated funds in the new year to facilitate its activities.”

This funding is crucial for maintaining the Army’s operational readiness and advancing its strategic initiatives.

Over the past three days, the Army leadership has reflected on administration, training, and operational matters.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede highlighted the Army’s dedication to innovative approaches against terrorism, secessionist movements, and Nigeria’s security threats.

“As a follow-up to our deliberations, the Nigerian Army will invest more in modern technology to aid training and ultimately combat these threats,” he noted.

To ensure effective training, the Army headquarters will promote realistic and focused training across the force.

Additionally, Lt. Gen. Oluyede emphasized the necessity of thoroughly reviewing specialized training programs in order to achieve operational victory.

He announced that the best equipment would be deployed to training schools, preparing military personnel for current and future challenges.

Looking ahead, the COAS stressed the importance of transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated, combat-ready force.

He also addressed accommodation issues; therefore, he emphasized the need for swift project completion with qualified personnel.

Moreover, Lt. Gen. Oluyede underscored the importance of soldiers’ welfare, thus aiming to establish a soldier-first culture throughout the Army.

He thanked President Tinubu for his support, assuring him and Nigerians of the Army’s commitment to national security.

“Under my leadership, the Nigerian Army will leave no stone unturned in upholding the confidence and support of the government and the people of Nigeria,” he concluded.
