Nigerian Banks to shut branches for Eid al-Adha Holiday

Published

on

Commercial banks nationwide will suspend operations on Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, in compliance with the federal government’s declaration of public holidays for Eid al-Adha.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holidays on Monday, urging Muslims to embrace the festival’s spirit of sacrifice and unity.

Customers are advised to use digital banking channels, including mobile apps, USSD codes, and ATMs, during the closure.

Withdrawals from a customer’s own bank ATMs remain free, while third-party ATM transactions attract fees of up to ₦600 per ₦20,000 withdrawal.

The holiday comes amid an ongoing legal dispute between the Central Bank of Nigeria and advocacy group SERAP over recent increases in ATM charges. Normal banking operations will resume on Tuesday, June 10.
