Nigerian Cyclist Reaches Ghana, Continues Journey to America
DDM News

(DDM) — A young Nigerian adventurer, Emmanuel Myam, popularly known as Emmiwuks, has pedaled his way into Ghana on a bold solo bicycle expedition from Lagos, Nigeria, to the United States of America.
The feat, achieved just ten days after departing Nigeria on July 1, 2025, has captured attention across West Africa, where his cross-border movement has inspired conversations about resilience, advocacy, and African unity.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Emmiwuks, a 25-year-old from Benue State, made headlines in 2022 after cycling from Makurdi to Lagos to meet music icon Davido.
His current mission is far more ambitious, an international campaign titled “Project NIG2USA”, which seeks to give a voice to displaced and orphaned children affected by violent conflicts across Africa.
Sharing updates via Instagram, Emmiwuks celebrated his arrival in Ghana, describing the country as “the land of warmth, rhythm, and strength.”
In his post, he wrote: “Day 10. Project NIG2USA. Welcome to Ghana. A new chapter, same mission. Naija no dey carry last.”
Before arriving in Ghana, he cycled through Benin Republic and Togo, stopping along the way to interact with communities and donate to orphanages.
In Cotonou, Benin Republic, he used funds donated by supporters to assist an orphanage, describing the experience as deeply moving and symbolic of the journey’s purpose.
“Seeing those children reminded me of the displaced people in my dear country and across Africa, suffering in silence because of insecurity,” he wrote in an emotional post.
He emphasized that his journey was not about personal glory but about shining a spotlight on those forgotten by society.
“Every ride, every mile is for them. But I can’t do it alone,” he added.
While his arrival in Ghana marks only a fraction of the intended journey, analysts suggest the dream of riding a bicycle from Nigeria to the US, a distance of over 8,500 kilometers, faces significant geographical and logistical hurdles.
There is no land bridge between Africa and the Americas. Therefore, the Atlantic Ocean must be crossed, likely by sea vessel, before continuing from South or Central America northward.
Such a journey would require multiple visas, diplomatic clearances, and secure navigation through conflict zones, deserts, and politically unstable areas.
Security concerns, dehydration risks, limited road infrastructure, and banditry also make parts of the African leg dangerous.
Despite the challenges, Emmiwuks remains determined to complete the journey. His story has begun trending on social media, where many hail him as a symbol of hope and defiance.
He continues to call on the public for support, stating, “Let’s ride this together. Share the story. Lend your voice.”
From Lagos to Ghana, and eventually, he hopes, the shores of the United States, Emmiwuks is proving that resilience, when fueled by purpose, knows no borders.
