Nigerian embassies, a national embarrassment – ‎ Minister‎

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama‎ on Monday disclosed that Nigeria embassies are National Embarrassment.

The Minister who appeared before Senate Committee on Appropriation to defend his Ministry quota in N180 billion virement request by President Muhammadu Buhari said the situation in Nigeria Embassies is tragic.

According to him, Nigeria embassies are National embarrassment. The situation is tragic, it is terrible. Diplomats are kicked out of their offices.

He added that the situation is so bad that Nigerians in foreign mission cannot pay school fees of their children.

Also speaking at the meeting,‎ Special Adviser for Social Protection Plan, Maryam Uwais told committee that not up N1 billion has been spent by Federal government on Social Intervention Programme.

Meanwhile, N25 billion has been released for the programme and additional N40 billion is expected to be released by next week into same account.

According to her, “we did not get the release for the intervention Programme on time; even the ‎amount given to us, we won’t be able to spend it before the end of the year.”

He explained that the special intervention Programme is a homegrown which will begin in 11 states in the country.
