The Abia State Police Command has said that its operatives killed six suspected kidnappers and rescued four victims.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who made this known in a statement issued on Saturday said the kidnappers were killed in an operation that took place in Osokwa, Osisioma, Ngwa Local Government Area of the state.

Chinaka identified the rescued victims as Onwuka Chimela, Onwuka Emeh Chinaza, Isreal Ikemsinachi Ukandu, and Ibiam Kingsley.

The police spokesperson said that the victims were abducted on March 9, at around 9:30AM while travelling in their Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa.

Their ordeal lasted for five harrowing days before the police tracked down the kidnappers’ hideout.

According to Chinaka, the tactical team of the command, acting on credible intelligence and advanced technological tools, located the abductors’ den in a three-bedroom bungalow.

Upon arrival, the operatives were met with heavy gunfire from the criminals but swiftly overpowered them.

“The kidnappers engaged our men in a fierce gun battle, but our officers, equipped with superior firepower, neutralized six of them while ensuring the safe rescue of all four victims,” Chinaka stated.

The police recovered a cache of weapons from the scene, including two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition.

Chinaka further stated that the victims, though shaken by their ordeal, were unharmed and were immediately taken to the Police Hospital for medical evaluation.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, commended the officers for their bravery and assured the public of the command’s commitment to eradicating crime in the state.
