The Nigerian senate has resumed plenary on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 after 2 months of summer holidays.

As follows are the proceedings for the first day of the plenary:

Wamakko Aliyu moves for the approval of Votes and Proceeding of Thursday 21st July, 2016. Senator Danjuma La’ah seconds.

Senate President Bukola Saraki reads a letter from President Muhammadu Buhari on the nomination of Chairman and Commissioners of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Senate President Bukola Saraki also reads another letter from the President Muhammadu Buhari on nominations to the Nigerian Communications Commission [NCC] Board.

Senate President Bukola Saraki welcomes all Senators from Recess. He says the economic challenges in Nigeria in biting hard.

“People are not so interested in who brought us here… but how to get out of the current challenges,” Bukola Saraki.

Senate President Bukola Saraki charges the Executive Arm to do the needful towards bringing the nation out of recession.

Senate President Bukola Saraki also urges his Distinguished Colleagues to be prepared for more serious legislative business.

Senate President says Political Office Holders must work together to bring the nation out of the current economic woes.

Senate Leader Ali Ndume rises to inform the Senate of the demise of Honourable Oluwatayo of the House of Representatives.

Senate Leader Ndume now moves that the Senate takes a  one minute silence and adjourn to 21st September, 2016 in the honour of the departed Honourable.

Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio seconds the motion.

Senate President Bukola Saraki now makes announcements and condoles with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on the demise of his Father.

Senate Leader Ali Ndume says the Senate will begin a debate on the economic challenges and recession tomorrow, Wednesday 21st Sept., 2016.

Senate now takes a 1Minute Silence in honour of the departed House of Representatives member, Honourable Oluwatayo.

Senate President Bukola Saraki now puts the question and Senate adjourns to Wednesday 21st September, 2016.
