Nigerians To Pay N5 Levy Per Litter Of Petrol, Diesel — Senate

After a year President Muhammadu Buhari jerked up price of fuel to N145, Senate‎ Committee on Works has recommended that Nigerians should pay N5 levy on ‎any volume of petrol and diesel products imported into Nigeria and on non-locally refined petroleum products.

This is contained in a bill titled National Roads Bill‎ which was presented by Senator Kabiru Gaya who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Works.

The bill was listed on the Order Paper, on Thursday, but was stepped down at the last minute.

In a report obtained by our correspondent, senators who sig‎ned the report were Senators Gaya (chairman), Clifford Ordia (vice chairman), Mao Ohuabunwa (member), Bukar Abba Ibrahim (member), Biodun Olujimi (member) and Ben Bruce (member).

The report reads in part:

“Fuel levy of N5 chargeable per litre on any volume of Petroleum and diesel products imported into Nigeria and on locally refined Petroleum products.

“Axle load control charges”

“Toll fees (A percentage of not exceeding 10% of any revenue paid as user charge per vehicle on any federal road designated as a toll road”
