The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has unveiled a new digital Pre-Enrolment Portal aimed at streamlining the registration process for Nigerians seeking the National Identification Number (NIN).

DDM gathered that the portal allows applicants to securely submit personal information, upload required documents, and schedule appointments ahead of biometric capture at enrolment centres.

According to a statement posted on NIMC’s official X handle on Friday, the initiative is designed to reduce waiting times, improve data accuracy, and ensure a smoother registration experience for citizens nationwide.

Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, emphasised that the platform enables prospective applicants both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora to submit their biodata online prior to visiting enrolment centres.

The commission highlighted that the digital system is expected to significantly reduce congestion and long queues at centres across the country.

Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, NIMC’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, stated that the portal simplifies the registration process by allowing applicants to complete a large portion of their enrolment digitally, leaving only biometric capture to be conducted in person.

Key features of the platform include online capture and management of NIN biodata, appointment scheduling to minimise delays, and direct data entry by applicants to enhance accuracy and reduce errors.

The system also ensures secure and confidential handling of user information, seamless upload of required documents, and improved operational efficiency for NIMC staff.

Officials noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises digital transformation, efficient public service delivery, and inclusive national development.

NIMC urged all prospective NIN applicants to take advantage of the Pre-Enrolment Portal, describing it as a faster, more convenient, and citizen-friendly pathway to obtaining a National Identification Number.

The commission added that the digital platform underscores its commitment to building a reliable, inclusive, and technologically advanced identity ecosystem capable of supporting national planning, service delivery, and socio-economic development.

With the launch of the portal, Nigeria joins a growing number of countries leveraging digital solutions to enhance citizen access to essential identity services and reduce administrative bottlenecks in public sector operations.
