NIMC urges Nigerians to modify NIN details Only via official portal

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) recently issued a strong advisory to Nigerians regarding their National Identification Number (NIN) details.

Specifically, it urged individuals to make any modifications exclusively through its official self-service portal to ensure data security.

By taking this precaution, NIMC aims to protect the integrity of users’ personal information.

Consequently, following the guidelines helps prevent unauthorized access and potential data breaches that could jeopardize users’ identities.

In a recent statement released on Monday, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC stressed the portal’s security and reliability. Users can access this official portal at SelfserviceModification.nimc.gov.ng, which offers convenience for updating personal information.

Furthermore, the NIMC emphasized that the platform allows users to make changes easily from any location. By utilizing this service, individuals can ensure their records remain accurate without needing to visit an office personally.

The statement reiterated that modifications conducted outside the official platform could expose individuals to identity theft and other fraudulent activities. “Do not attempt to modify your NIN data on any unauthorized websites, as this may compromise your personal information and put you at risk of identity theft,” the commission warned.

NIMC also highlighted the benefits of using the self-service portal, noting that it enhances data integrity while eliminating the need to visit an enrollment center. “By using the official NIMC self-service portal, you can be rest assured that your data is secure and protected. You’ll also enjoy the convenience of updating your information from anywhere, at any time,” the statement added.

The commission urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid third-party platforms claiming to offer NIN modification services. It reassured the public that the self-service portal is a dependable tool for managing their personal information securely.
