ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Nigeria Independent System Operator has clarified that the recent reduction in power allocations to Lagos, Abuja, and northern Nigeria is due to multiple transmission line outages and network constraints, not a deliberate cut in generation capacity.
The clarification comes amid growing public concern over persistent blackouts in major cities, with many Nigerians questioning why power supply has deteriorated despite the government’s assurances of improved generation. The NISO explained that the grid has been experiencing a series of technical challenges, including faults on critical transmission lines that have limited the amount of electricity that can be delivered to load centres.
