The National Judicial Council [NJC] has withdrawn the circulated list of 27 judges recommended as justices for the Court of Appeal, claiming it is fake.

Elombah.com had, on Monday, citing SaharaReporters, reported that the South-East region was once again left out from the judges recommended for appointment into the Court Of Appeal by the National Judicial Council [NJC].

According to the list obtained by SaharaReporters, not one judge of South-Eastern origin is included which immediately attracted much condemnation from Nigerians.

However, in a swift damage-control move, NJC quickly declared that the list previously published by many media outlets is fake.

An NJC notice, made  available to TheNigeriaLawyer by NJC Director of Information, Mr Soji Oye, Esq, reads:

“IT IS FAKE NEWS

“The attention of the National Judicial Council has been drawn to a purported list of Judges newly appointed to the Court of Appeal being circulated in public space and tragically reported as news item by credible news outlets.

“The Council wishes to dissociate itself completely from the said list as nothing of such emanated from it.

“Members of the public are also advised to discountenance the said list which is nothing but a figment of the imagination of the author (s).”

Upon a subtle investigation, though, Elombah.com discovered that the list was withdrawn following the attendant hoopla it generated.
