Abuja, Nigeria – February 6, 2025– Marking a historic leap for sustainability, NNPCL and First E&P announced a 96% reduction in routine gas flaring.

Through innovative strategies, their Joint Venture operations slashed emissions, prioritizing cleaner energy solutions.

This milestone aligns with Nigeria’s climate goals, showcasing proactive environmental stewardship.

Additionally, the partners implemented advanced technologies to capture and repurpose gas, transforming waste into usable energy. By optimizing infrastructure and monitoring systems, they minimized ecological harm while boosting operational efficiency.

This progress not only curbs pollution but also strengthens Nigeria’s global energy reputation.

The collaboration underscores a commitment to sustainable development, inspiring industry-wide change.

Finally, the achievement signals a greener future, balancing economic growth with planetary health.

This significant reduction marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

This milestone was achieved in the Anyala (OML 83) and Madu (OML 85) oil fields, located offshore Nigeria.

Therefore, this marks a critical step toward Nigeria meeting its Paris Agreement climate targets, showcasing the nation’s commitment to global environmental standards.

Nigeria achieved this reduction by deploying an associated gas reinjection strategy at Bayelsa State’s Madu field.

By capturing previously flared gas, safely storing it, and slashing emissions, this innovation advances both environmental sustainability and climate action.

Moreover, this accomplishment aligns with the regulatory standards set by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

It underscores the JV’s commitment to adhering to both national and global environmental best practices, showcasing their responsibility in resource management.

Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, praised the achievement, stating, “This milestone highlights our dedication to responsible resource management and optimizing production in a manner that prioritizes sustainability.”
