NNPP wins Kano by-election as APC sweeps Kaduna Assembly seats

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has secured a significant victory in the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election in Kano, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed wins in two Kaduna State Assembly elections.

While announcing the results on Sunday, Prof. Hassan Shitu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, declared NNPP’s Ali Alhassan as the winner of the Kano election, with 16,198 votes.

Alhassan defeated his closest rival from the APC, who polled 5,347 votes.

The by-election was held to fill the seat left vacant following the death of the previous lawmaker representing the constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.

In Kaduna State, the Basawa Constituency election saw Alhaji Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC emerge victorious.

Prof. Nasiru Rabiu of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who served as the Returning Officer, announced that Umar-Sani received 10,996 votes, beating Muazu Danyaro of the PDP, who garnered 5,499 votes.

DanBala Usman of the SDP came third with 811 votes, and Mahmuda Almustapha of the ADC polled 146.

“Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected”, Rabiu stated.

In the Zaria Kewaye Constituency, Isa Mohammed (Ihamo) of the APC claimed victory.

Prof. Balarabe Abdullahi of ABU Zaria, who announced the results, said Mohammed secured 26,613 votes, defeating Nuhu Muazu of the SDP, who polled 5,721 votes, while Mahmud Wappa of the PDP finished third with 5,331 votes.

“Isa Haruna Mohammed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected”, Abdullahi confirmed.

These results further consolidate the APC’s hold in Kaduna while underscoring the NNPP’s continued dominance in Kano.
