North or south, still no progress: Bugaje blasts failed presidents and ethnic politics
DDM News

Former lawmaker Dr. Usman Bugaje has ignited controversy over Nigeria’s leadership and persistent regional political divisions.
Bugaje condemned the obsession with where presidential candidates come from, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.
He argued this regional focus distracts from urgent national issues and exposes political shallowness.
Bugaje believes Nigeria’s politicians lack real ideas to solve the country’s worsening problems.
He dismissed the belief that regional origin guarantees national progress or effective governance in Nigeria.
Bugaje declared, “This North versus South argument shows the shallowness of our political landscape.”
“Our leaders have no substantive proposals. If they did, they would share them openly,” he added.
He emphasized that being Nigerian should be enough qualification for any presidential candidate.
“In this 21st century, we are still talking about North and South,” he said.
“We have tried the Northern president, we have tried the Southern president,” he added.
“What have they done? I have not seen anything,” Bugaje declared bluntly.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Bugaje’s comments have stirred intense debate among political commentators and civic groups nationwide.
He challenged voters and the media to stop fixating on party defections and ethnic affiliations.
Instead, he urged a shift toward evaluating politicians based on competence, ideas, and vision.
Bugaje stressed that effective leadership is not determined by a candidate’s place of origin.
He called on Nigerians to interrogate what political parties and leaders truly stand for.
“Our democracy must evolve beyond its current shallow form,” he asserted.
He highlighted key national crises, economic decline, insecurity, and environmental damage, needing urgent attention.
Bugaje also pointed to rising poverty, hunger, and worsening healthcare due to rapid population growth.
He warned that these challenges cannot be solved through ethnic or regional sentiments.
Only leaders with clear strategies and national interest can address Nigeria’s deep-rooted problems, he said.
Bugaje insisted that voters must demand accountability and concrete plans from every political aspirant.
“We must ask tough questions and expect detailed answers,” he urged.
Ultimately, he concluded that Nigeria’s future depends on leadership defined by ideas, not geography.
His message: substance over sentiment, solutions over slogans, and vision over village.
