Stakeholders in the north of the country say that the region may not recover from the siege it faces from insurgents, bandits and kidnappers in a hundred years even if the conflicts stops today, elombah.com has said.

According to them, an interested group under the auspices of Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development, the siege which they say happens on daily basis has totally grounded educational, economic and socio-political activities.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, the group said that unless President Muhammadu Buhari takes proactive steps by overhauling the security architecture, it would take at least 100 years for the devastation to be remedied and the North becoming relevant again in the scheme of things.

The the group is made up of elders from the North, said that the region is under siege by Bokoharam, bandits, and kidnappers on daily basis. They also accuse the media of under reporting the situation.

In the statement signed by their National Coordinator, Engr. Zana Goni, the Coalition insisted that it was time for the president to relieve the nation’s security heads and try new hands, since according to them, the situation in the region was not getting any better.

They threatened to mobilize Nigerians from other parts of the country against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections if their demands for the administration to stop the killings in their region through adoption of new approach was ignored.
