Northern Bloc Adopts ADC Coalition As Platform For 2027 — Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has confirmed that the Northern political bloc has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its preferred platform for the 2027 general elections.
Lawal made the announcement on Saturday during a press briefing at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The event marked the conclusion of the third expanded meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (NPCG) North, which he chairs.
According to him, representatives from all 19 Northern states reached a consensus to rally behind the ADC.
He said the group’s goal is to elect a president who truly represents Northern interests.
Lawal said, “The momentum started with us as a consultative forum. But now, the entire North has decided to move into the ADC fully. The lines between NPCG and ADC have now blurred.”
He stressed that the current administration, led by President Bola Tinubu, has neglected the region’s major issues, including security, infrastructure, and the economy.
“This government does not care about solving the problems facing the North. So, we must take responsibility and push for real solutions.
We will do that through the ADC,” he added.
Lawal also addressed the emergence of ADC as a coalition platform.
The July 1 unveiling saw major political figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai align with the party.
As part of the ADC’s restructuring, David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola were appointed interim National Chairman and Secretary.
Lawal said the group is now mobilizing across the North. He believes unity is key to winning in 2027.
“There’s insecurity. There’s marginalisation. Everything seems designed to break the North. But we are enlightening our people. We’ll unite and act as one,” he said.
Lawal also pushed back against fears that votes won’t count in 2027.
He assured Nigerians that the ADC is ready to defend every ballot.
“Forget about that fear. Votes will count. APC will throw tactics at us. But we’ll counter them and win,” he vowed.
He concluded by calling the ADC a party built on democracy and fairness.
According to him, whoever wins its primary North or South will have the full backing of the Northern bloc.
