The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has withdrawn the quit notice issued to the Igbo living in the northern part of the country.

The Arewa youth coalition had asked the Igbo to leave the region on or before October 1 or face violent eviction.

During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, however, the group announced the withdrawal of the notice.

Prior to the announcement, members of the Arewa groups had met with the Borno state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, former governor of Kano state, Kabiru Gaya, and former minister, Sani Daura, among others.

The quit notice had elicited widespread condemnation from key stakeholders across the country, with many calling for the arrest of the Arewa youth.

Consequently, president of the Arewa Youth Coalition, Yarima Shettima had said the group would review the notice.

“We are also reviewing our own situation.

“We are going to have a meeting soon with other leaders of the coalition and come out with a clear position of things and what we intend to do in order to move forward,” he had said.

It could be recalled that the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau had attempted to explain why the Arewa youth were not arrested for the brazen arrogance.

He said that the failure to arrest them stems from the fact that they claimed to have been misquoted by the media concerning the notice.
