Abuja, May 21, 2025 – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has strongly condemned the recent attack on its officers in Edo State while also addressing a tragic incident in Oyo State.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed these events in a press release shared on the NPF’s official Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Edo State Attack

In the early hours of Monday, May 20, 2025, operatives from the Force Intelligence Department faced a violent mob in Okhuimwun Community, Edo State. While traveling through the area, the officers encountered roadblocks near the University of Benin.

Suddenly, the mob attacked them with stones, sticks, and other weapons, injuring two officers.

Despite the danger, the officers showed restraint by avoiding lethal force. Currently, the injured personnel are recovering under medical care.

The NPF has condemned the attack, stressing that such lawlessness will not be tolerated.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting citizens while urging the public to respect officers performing their duties.

Oyo State Tragedy

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered a full investigation into a fatal shooting in Oyo State involving a 14-year-old boy, Kehinde Alade. The incident, which involved officers from the Oyo State Police Command and traffic officials, has sparked public outrage. The IGP expressed deep regret over the tragedy and confirmed the arrest of the officer involved.

Furthermore, the police assured the public of a transparent and thorough probe, with findings to be made public. The IGP extended condolences to the bereaved family, promising justice for the young victim. The force emphasized that such incidents do not reflect its values.
