“The Nigeria Police Force has assessed the security landscape and concluded that proceeding with the elections risks widespread unrest, endangering lives and property,” the statement emphasized.

Furthermore, the NPF expressed readiness to collaborate with other security agencies to maintain law and order. However, it strongly advised against holding the elections now to prevent unnecessary confrontations and ensure public safety.

Additionally, the NPF highlighted legal complexities surrounding the elections.

The Attorney-General of the Federation provided clarification following a recent Court of Appeal judgment on February 10, 2025, which nullified an earlier Federal High Court decision, raising legal questions about the elections.

“The combination of security threats and legal uncertainties makes it imperative for the Osun State Government to reconsider its position,” the statement added.

The NPF reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring democratic processes occur peacefully and legally.

It urged all stakeholders, including political parties, to exercise restraint and prioritize citizens’ safety during this period.

As tensions persist, the NPF’s advisory underscores the need for collaborative efforts to maintain stability and uphold democratic principles in Nigeria.
