The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has officially announced the resumption of daily train operations along the Jos–Bukuru corridor in Plateau State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the Plateau State Ministry of Transportation confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday, July 12, 2025, through the Ministry’s Information Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Davou Gyang.

According to the announcement, train services will begin fully on Monday, July 14, 2025, following the successful completion of extensive repair works and test runs by certified engineers.

The statement confirmed that both the railway tracks and trains have been inspected and certified fit for operation by the NRC, ensuring safety and reliability for passengers.

The renewed service will include four daily trips between Bukuru Station and Jos Terminus, with designated stops at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe stations.

The first train is scheduled to depart Bukuru by 6:50 a.m., stopping briefly at Old Airport and Dogon Karfe before arriving at Jos Terminus by 7:26 a.m.

Subsequent trips will run throughout the day, offering residents multiple travel options and reducing pressure on the roads.

The Ministry urged commuters and the general public to take advantage of the improved transportation option, noting that it would ease traffic congestion and provide a safer, more affordable alternative to road travel.

This milestone marks the first time in over a decade that regular rail service will operate on the Jos–Bukuru route, following years of abandonment and infrastructural decay.

The move aligns with ongoing federal and state-level efforts to revive Nigeria’s railway network, especially in urban centres where short-distance travel is in high demand.

The return of train service is expected to boost economic activities, improve access to the state capital, and benefit thousands of residents who rely on public transport for daily movement.

Security has also been enhanced at all designated stations to ensure the protection of passengers and railway assets.

Residents have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention in the face of increasing transport costs and deteriorating road conditions.

Transportation experts have commended the initiative, urging authorities to maintain the infrastructure and expand service routes in the future.
