Obasa defends His ambition for Governorship

Former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa asserts that aspiring to be Lagos’ governor in 2027 is not wrong.

During a press briefing at his Ikeja residence, he challenged state leaders to clarify when he expressed this ambition to Lagosians.

Obasa emphasized, “Having an ambition to become a governor is not a sin.”

He clarified that while he previously stated he had no thoughts of governorship during a budget presentation, it doesn’t imply he lacks qualifications or experience.

“I will continue as the speaker until they follow due process,” he said, criticizing the assembly’s militarization during impeachment.

He also claimed that officials removed him while he was outside Nigeria, highlighting serious procedural flaws.

On January 13, 2025, over two-thirds of the 40-member house voted to oust Obasa amid misconduct allegations.

His deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, quickly became the new Speaker, making history as the first female leader in the South-West state.

Since first elected in 2007, Obasa has maintained a presence in the House.

He became Speaker in June 2015, serving until his recent removal in January 2025.
