(DDM) – United Nigeria Airlines has officially resumed scheduled commercial flights into Osubi Airport, Warri, marking a significant milestone for Delta State’s aviation and economic sectors.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the airline’s first flight, UN0548, touched down from Abuja on August 25, receiving a ceremonial water salute and a red-carpet welcome for passengers and dignitaries in attendance.
Airport Manager, Winston Ifeacho Egwuatu, described the resumption of operations as a major boost to Warri’s economy, noting that consistent flight schedules would enhance trade, tourism, and social activities across the region.
He highlighted that reliable air transport infrastructure is vital for connecting Delta State to key commercial hubs nationwide.
Prominent businessman and socialite, Obi Cubana, who was onboard the inaugural flight, commended the airline for its professionalism and punctuality.
He emphasised the importance of increasing flight frequencies to meet the growing travel demand from residents, corporate travellers, and tourists in the Niger Delta region.
TVMetroMedia reports that the Abuja–Warri route will be the starting point for the airline’s resumed operations, with plans to expand services to other major Nigerian cities in the near future.
Cubana urged stakeholders, including local authorities and investors, to support initiatives that enhance the state’s connectivity and economic growth.
Passengers expressed excitement over the restored air services, noting that previous flight disruptions had limited business opportunities and personal travel.
The resumption is expected to create jobs at the airport and in related service industries, from hospitality to logistics.
Officials also confirmed that the airline will maintain strict safety protocols and modern service standards, ensuring seamless travel experiences for all passengers.
The ceremony at Osubi Airport reflected growing optimism about Delta State’s positioning as a commercial and tourism hub.
The return of United Nigeria Airlines is seen as part of a broader effort to improve regional infrastructure, stimulate economic activities, and encourage private-sector participation in the state’s development agenda.
Stakeholders believe that sustained operations will significantly contribute to Warri’s prominence as a strategic economic and aviation center in the Niger Delta.
