(DDM) – Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has downplayed recent threats to his life, insisting that such intimidation will not deter his mission to uplift communities across Nigeria.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the former Governor of Anambra State made this statement while addressing students during a visit to his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, where he reiterated his commitment to education, healthcare, and social development.

Obi responded firmly to recent comments by Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, who advised him to seek security clearance before entering the state.

Governor Okpebholo’s statement, seen by many as politically motivated, sparked a wave of controversy across social and political circles.

However, Mr. Obi dismissed the notion of seeking clearance as unnecessary, emphasizing that his visits across the country are purely developmental, not political.

“I receive threats every day; actually, the ones you’re hearing are vocal,” Obi declared.

He maintained that these threats do not affect his resolve to contribute to nation-building, saying his actions are guided by compassion and a desire to support the vulnerable, not political ambition.

“I go around the country to contribute to nation-building, not to engage in politics or cause disruption,” he stated.

Obi emphasized that his donations to hospitals, support for schools, and provision of relief to impoverished communities are not campaign strategies but acts of responsible citizenship.

He expressed disappointment that such efforts are sometimes politicized or misconstrued as political maneuvering.

“Governors should be grateful when people come into their states to support development,” he added. “That’s the real politics we need, politics of impact.”

Political observers say Obi’s calm but assertive response sends a strong message about rising intolerance and unnecessary hostility in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Some analysts argue that Governor Okpebholo’s comments expose a larger issue of fear among the political elite toward any figure who resonates with ordinary Nigerians beyond ethnic or partisan lines.

They suggest that Obi’s actions represent a shift toward practical, people-centered leadership, especially in a country plagued by insecurity, underfunded schools, and failing hospitals.

Despite growing tensions in some states over his presence, Obi pledged to continue his visits to all regions of Nigeria.

He reaffirmed that his focus is on building people and supporting local institutions, not engaging in party rivalry or campaign posturing.

Peter Obi’s stance has since drawn praise from Nigerians on social media, many of whom hailed him for his courage and clarity.

He concluded his statement by saying that the threats won’t stop him, as his mission is deeply rooted in national interest and unity.
