Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former running mate to Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, believes Obi deserves to be the presidential flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) rather than a vice-presidential candidate.
According to Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s impressive performance in the 2023 general election, where he secured over six million votes, makes him overqualified to be anyone’s deputy in the 2027 election.
Baba-Ahmed emphasized Obi’s electoral strength, citing his disputed 10 million votes in the 2023 election as a testament to his popularity and leadership potential.
Obi has proven himself to have significant public support, making him a strong contender for the ADC’s presidential ticket.
Baba-Ahmed believes Obi has the leadership potential to lead the coalition’s charge, rather than playing a secondary role as vice-president.
Atiku Abubakar, Former Vice President of Nigeria and a prominent figure in the opposition is a member of the Coalition.
Rotimi Amaechi, Former Minister of Transportation and a strong contender for the ADC’s presidential ticket is also a member of the Coalition.
Despite attending the ADC coalition launch, Baba-Ahmed clarified that he remains a committed member of the Labour Party and has not defected.
His endorsement of Obi is based on his assessment of Obi’s leadership potential and electoral strength.
The ADC’s decision on its presidential candidate will have significant implications for the 2027 election.
With Baba-Ahmed’s endorsement, Obi’s popularity, and the support of other key stakeholders, the party’s choice of candidate will be crucial in determining its chances of success.
“Peter Obi Should Not Be Coalition’s VP Candidate, He’s Overqualified To Be Anyone’s Deputy In 2027.
He Deserves To Be The Presidential Flagbearer Of The ADC”, Datti Baba-Ahmed
Datti Baba-Ahmed stated this on his social media handle.on Thursday.
